Rivers was born September 24, 1961 in Memphis, Tennessee. She graduated from Whitehaven High School in 1979, and attended Memphis State University graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree of Fine Arts in December 1983. She studied under Harris Sorrelle in sculpture, Jim Watkins in Design, and Brack Walker in design and painting.
